June 1967 was the end of my first year at UCLA and the beginning of CSC.   I started the company that summer after my freshman year when I happened to be in the right place, at the right time, with the right idea.  I was able to transfer my passion and competitiveness as an athlete into something that affected an entire industry.   In the late 1960s, there was a dire need for an alternative approach to security for the emerging rock and roll business.  In an effort to fill that need, I grouped together young athletes from various ethnic communities; a rainbow coalition.  These young men were all champions from different sports, physically impressive and leaders in their communities.   They were also in the same age group as the patrons attending the rock and roll shows.  Thus, we coined the phrase ‘peer group security’.

As CSC nears its 42nd year of service, I reflect on how the concept of sport has always shaped our approach to crowd management.  We have succeeded because of our winning mentality, our pride in performance and our commitment to excellence.  I have always believed in the strong analogy between the qualities of a champion and the qualities it takes to provide world class service.  CSC, together with its sister companies, has evolved from its concert security beginnings into a full spectrum crowd management firm.  We are able to provide service that no one else can match, and our long term success is attributed to our loyal team members.  We have been able to remain at the forefront of the security industry because of our determination to improve and our desire to excel.  We will always continue to raise our standards and strive for excellence to ensure that we are providing each and every client with the best possible service and to retain our title as the leader in crowd management.
